Beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) is a metabolite of Leucine, one of the essential amino acids that must be provided through the diet.

However, only 5% of ingested Leucine is converted into HMB, hence its exogenous supplementation is necessary to perceive the benefits of this compound.

HMB plays multiple roles in the body, notably in protein metabolism, cell membrane integrity, and improving sarcolemma integrity (membrane surrounding muscle fibers), thus protecting against protein degradation.

    2. Helps maintain muscle mass

In terms of supplementation, HMB helps decrease protein catabolism, increase protein synthesis, and enhance muscle cell proliferation, promoting muscle growth.

Additionally, pre-exercise consumption may lead to a lower increase in lactate dehydrogenase enzyme, suggesting some protection against muscle damage caused by physical exertion.

The effect of HMB supplementation yields better results in novice strength trainers, reducing markers of muscle catabolism and promoting lean mass and strength gains. Trained athletes also experience improved results in lean mass and strength, although supplementation duration may need to exceed 6 weeks.

WHEN AND HOW TO TAKE IT?

The food supplement HMB has accumulative effect, not immediate, so it is necessary to take it over time (continuous use) for optimal results.

Take 2 capsules three times a day with a glass of water. Take 30-60 minutes before exercising.
